Das Weingut Brenneis-Koch wird von uns, Matthias Koch und Verena Suratny, seit 1993 geführt. Unser Elternweingut Erhard Koch in Ellerstadt und das Traditionshaus Emil Brenneis in Leistadt fanden damals in einer gelungenen Verbindung zusammen. Mit knapp 10 Hektar Weinlagen in Bad Dürkheim, Leistadt, Kallstadt und Ellerstadt steht uns für den Weinanbau auch das jeweils ideale Terroir für fruchtig-barocke Rieslinge, elegante weiße Burgunder und erstklassige Rotweine zur Verfügung. Anknüpfend an die 2000 Jahre alte Weinbaukultur der Pfalz legen wir besonderen Wert auf den Ausbau klassischer Pfälzer Rebsorten, zu denen neben dem Riesling auch der Silvaner, der Muskateller und der Saint Laurent zu zählen sind. Die weißen Burgundersorten schlagen über kräftige Rotweine von Merlot und Syrah den Bogen zu unseren französischen Nachbarn. Mit der ersten deutschen Versuchsanlage Nebbiolo in den steilen Kalkhängen über Kallstadt leisten wir Pionierarbeit, um den Anspruch der Pfalz auf einen Spitzenplatz unter den europäischen Weinbauregionen zu untermauern. Bei der Weinbergsarbeit sind intensive Laubarbeit und stramme Ertragsreduktion selbstverständlich. Fast 90% der Trauben werden in mehreren Durchgängen mit der Hand gelesen. Dabei werden häufig die 4000 l/ha unterschritten. Während die Hauptrebsorte Riesling als ganze Trauben auf die Kelter gelangt, erfordern Sorten wie der Muskateller kurze Einmaischzeiten, um die Aromen zu erschließen. Im Keller reifen die Weißweine nach gezügelter Gärung noch mindestens drei Monate auf der Feinhefe. Je nach Sortentyp entweder im Edelstahl oder im großen Eichenholzfaß. Dadurch gelingen Prädikatsweine, die sich durch kräftigen Extrakt und außerordentliche Haltbarkeit auszeichnen. Die Rotweine werden nach klassischer Maischegärung in großen Bottichen und einer Standzeit von fünf bis vierzehn Tagen über Gärende hinaus ausschließlich in Eichenholzfässern ausgebaut. Dabei liegt der Anteil des Barrique-Ausbaus in Pfälzer Eiche bei ca. 25%. Die in der Jugend oftmals spröde wirkenden Rotweine sollten auf der Flasche noch mindestens drei Jahre reifen, um ihr Potential zu entfalten. Wir sind Mitglied im Pfälzer Barrique-Forum.

CINQUIEMES CRUS Château Clerc Milon, classified a fifth growth in 1855, consists of 75 acres of vines, planted with the typical varieties of the region: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Adjoining two Pauillac first growths, Lafite and Mouton, the estate had become somewhat neglected when it was bought by Baron Philippe in 1970. Vines were replanted by staff from Château Mouton Rothschild, parcels were consolidated and many technical improvements were made, including the building of a new vat room. These efforts are now bearing fruit and Château Clerc Milon has become one of the most sought-after Médoc wines, displaying a richness and depth comparable to the region's finest.

CINQUIEMES CRUS Château d'Armailhac, classified a fifth growth in 1855, is a close neighbor of Château Mouton Rothschild. Its 125 acres of vines, surrounding the beautiful grounds of the main house, are planted with the typical varieties of the region: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The estate, in the d'Armailhac family since the 18th century and named Château Mouton d'Armailhac after them, was acquired by Baron Philippe in 1933. Between 1956 and 1989, it was called successively Château Mouton Baron Philippe then Château Mouton Baronne Philippe. In 1989, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild restored part of its original identity, renaming it Château d'Armailhac. The wine, aged in oak casks, combines finesse and elegance with powerful, well-structured tannins.

In the Premières-Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation and owned by M. Dietrich, this 76 hectare property produces on average Red: 18,000 cases and White: 23,000 cases per year. Located in the Graves de Vayres appellation (but entitled to the Premières-Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation), the property and appellation have a similar climate to that enjoyed by the Entre-Deux-Mers: warmer than the maritime Médoc but not as wet. The key to the quality of this appellation's wine is as much soil as the aspect. Its vineyards (Red: Merlot 50%; Cabernet Sauvignon 40%; Cabernet Franc 10%; White: Sémillon 70%; Sauvignon Blanc 30%) lie on a gravelly topsoil with a clay/limestone subsoil.

PREMIERS CRUS Although by all accounts the vine has been rampant in these parts since at least Roman times, the earliest written mention that our archivist has discovered, citing a parcel of vines being cultivated at Haut-Brion dates back to only 1423. In the early days wines were known by the name of the parishes from whence they came. Later they became known as clarets. In the case of Haut-Brion, under the great stewardship of the Pontac family the wine's reputation was for years represented by the name of this enlightened and well respected family-- Pontac wine. Eventually as its renown grew, the name of the Estate came to replace that of its owners. The notion of a Great Growth was born! We find the first written mention of the wine in the Diaries of Samuel Pepys. While visiting the Royal Oak Tavern in London on April 10, 1663 Pepys wrote "There I drank a sort of French wine called Ho-Bryan (sic) which hath a good and most particular taste which I never before encountered....."

A balcony on the Mediterranean Along the coastline at around one hundred metres in altitude, Château l'Hospitalet overhangs the Mediterranean. The vineyard benefits from exceptional climatic conditions (a semi-arid Mediterranean climate, with mild winters) in terms of: the length of sunshine; the amount of heat stored during the day by the limestone and released during the night to the grapes; the effect of the Mediterranean, which tempers the temperature fluctuations; and the altitude, which attenuates the summer furnace. These factors thus permit the manufacture of a white wine that is generous, aromatic and that conserves its tonicity and freshness. The 2 soil types (Gargasien marl and limestone plus red Mediterranean soil) are meagrely productive and limit the vigour of the vines and so favour the maturing of the grapes. An obscure cinquième cru (fifth growth) château located in the pauillac ac in the médoc district of bordeaux. Its nearly 44 acres produce about 8,000 cases of average-quality red wine each year. The château's main customers are in Belgium and France, and not much is sold to other countries. The grape varieties are approximately 65 percent cabernet sauvignon and 20 percent merlot, along with small amounts of cabernet franc, malbec, and petit verdot.

The 'Chateau de Santenay' has consciously put the emphasis on quality, despite its constraints. This first step in this strategy goes for the vines. The technique of 'lutte raisonnee' is used in the vineyards in order to respect the environment while allowing the vines to grow harmoniously. The last step in this strategy is currently being put into place progressively stopping the use of weed-killers and allowing grass to grow in the vineyards. Cloudy Bay Vineyards was established in 1985 by Cape Mentelle, the Western Australian winery, which today is a subsidiary of champagne house Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. The company farms 140 hectares of vines at three carefully selected sites. Vineyards planted in 1986 surround the winery in the Wairau Valley at Rapaura, with additional plantings at nearby Renwick and in the Brancott Valley, in the southern foothills. Five long term contract growers also work closely with Cloudy Bay. The main varieties grown are sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and pinot noir with lesser quantities of riesling and gewurztraminer. The average annual crush is 1200 tonnes. The winery takes its name from the bay at the eastern extremity of the Wairau Valley. It was named Cloudy Bay by Captain Cook on his voyage to New Zealand in 1770. The wines of Cloudy Bay are exported to 20 countries worldwide, the principal markets being Australia, United Kingdom, USA, Europe and Japan. Cloudy Bay will continue to expand its operations and the company believes that the continued success of Marlborough lies in the production of premium wines from varieties best suited to the region. Die Domaine "Puy Marquis" erstreckt sich - ideal gelegen - zwischen dem Luberongebirge und den Vauclusebergen. Sie gehört zum Anbaugebiet "Côtes du Ventoux" auf Hängen mit steinigen, tonhaltigen Kalkböden. Die Weine führen die durch die Qualitätsnormen festgelegte Güterbezeichnung AOC (Appellation d´origine contrôlée). Der Weinberg mit einer Grösse von 12 ha befindet sich in einer Höhe zwischen 350 und 400 m, voll Süd gerichtet, und profitiert dadurch von einer optimalen Sonneneinstrahlung. Die Weinlese erfolgt manuell. Vor der Kelterung wird an den Trauben eine weitere Auslese vorgenommen. Unsere Rotweine reifen in grossen Eichenfässern und entstammen zwei Rebsorten: Grenache und Syrah. Die Weine von kräftiger Farbe entwickeln ein Bukett mit fruchtiger Note, von Gewürzen und Lakritze. Der Geschmack ist abgerundet und bietet eine Struktur von samtiger Gerbsäure, die ihm ein gutes Potential zum Altern verleiht. Der Rosé entstammt den Trauben Grenache und Cincault und wird bei niedrigen Temperaturen ausgebaut. Seine Farbe ist hell mit lachsfarbenen Reflexen. Im Geschmack ist er fruchtig, rund und erfrischend.

Niedrige Ertragsbelastung der Rebstöcke, die Wahl der richtigen Rebsorte, großer Aufwand bei der Laubwandgestaltung und der Pflege des Bodens reduzieren die Notwendigkeit von Pflanzenschutz und Düngung auf ein Minimum. Während der Weinlese entscheidet sich, wie wir die Möglichkeiten des Jahrgangs nutzen. Wichtige Entscheidungen über den richtigen Lesezeitpunkt und die Selektion der Trauben, evtl. in mehreren Lesedurchgängen, sind jetzt zu treffen. Der Transport vom Weinberg in den Keller erfolgt mit kleinen Edelstahlwannen, in denen die Trauben unverletzt bleiben. Ob beim Weißwein abgebeert und/oder gequetscht, Maischekontaktzeiten oder die Ganztraubenpressung angewandt wird, hängt von den Jahrgangseigenschaften und der Rebsorte ab. Es wird keine Maische gepumpt. Nach schonender Pressung wird der Most gekühlt, natürlich sedimentiert und kontrolliert in Edelstahl, ein kleiner Teil im Barrique vergoren. Beim Riesling wird wieder vermehrt auf die eigene Hefeflora vertraut. Die Weißweine kommen im späten Frühjahr auf die Flasche, wobei sie insgesamt nur ein oder zweimal bewegt werden. Beim Rotwein werden nur völlig gesunde Beeren verwendet, da die bei uns ausschließlich angewandte traditionelle Maischegärung das einfach erfordert. In der Maische befinden sich je nach Rebsorte bis zu 50 % ganze Trauben, eine Kaltmazeration geht bei Burgundersorten und Lemberger der Gärung voraus. Maischestandzeiten von 5 Tagen (Trollinger) bis 21 Tagen (Burgunder, Lemberger, internationale Sorten). Vergorene Maische wird weder gepumpt, noch mit Schnecken bewegt, wir nutzen die verschiedenen Stockwerke unserer ehemaligen Scheune zum Transport via Schwerkraft. Die Weine der „Simonroth"-Serie kommen gleich nach der Gärung in die Barriques (1. und 2. Belegung französische Eiche), die anderen in Edelstahl, der biologische Säureabbau folgt. Die „Simonroth"-Weine reifen 12 bis 18 Monate in Barriques von 228 und 300 Litern. Die Abfüllung erfolgt ohne Filtration. Sekt bereiten wir nach der traditionellen Flaschengärmethode im eigenen Haus. Der Schwerpunkt wird dabei immer mehr auf Blanc-de-Noir-Grundweinen von Trollinger (!) und Burgundersorten liegen.

Bereits vor mehr als 80 Jahren gegründet, gehört das Weingut heute zu den namhaftesten Betrieben des Landes. 1920 verkaufte Dante Robino in Italien seine Weinberge und wanderte nach Argentinien aus. Kaum angekommen machte er sich sogleich auf die Suche nach geeignetem Land für ein neues Weingut und kam dabei in die Provinz Mendoza. Hier fand er ideale Bedingungen für den Anbau von Qualitätsweinen vor und gründete sogleich das Weingut Robino, das noch heute seinen Namen trägt. 1982 wurde das Gut von der Familie Squassini übernommen, die es mit viel Engagement modernisierte und seitdem beständig die Qualität der Weine ausbaut. Sowohl Wein- als auch Schaumweinproduktion vereinen Tradition mit Fortschritt. So finden sich im Weingut große Eichenfässer neben Edelstahl-Anlagen für Traubenverarbeitung und Gärung. Ein Ziel, nämlich Weine mit hervorragendem Preis-Leistungsverhältnis zu erzeugen, hat Robino bereits erreicht. Die Weinberge liegen im Norden der Provinz Mendoza, überwiegend in Luján de Cuyo, am Fuße der Anden. Mendoza, im äußersten Westen des Landes gelegen, ist mit 144.000 Hektar Rebfläche die weitaus größte Weinbau-Region Argentiniens.

The Caves Rocbere have equipped their present installation with a maturing "magic" under ground cellar. This cellar represents an ideal location for the wines matured in oak barrels. They are situated at 80 meters below the ground level. Both Grand Opera and the Chateau de Mattes age in an excellent site because of the optimum characteristics, which present this old gypsum quarry. Temperature is kept at 15-16°C all year long. Hygrometry is kept at 80% There is also a natural lake inside, which preserves this constant humidity. The total area of this underground cellar is 4.000 meters squared. Terra-Vinea is located at 4 km from the Sigean African Reserve (350,000 visitors per year), at 3 km from the main road N9 and just at the exit of the motorway A9 (Exit Sigean), where millions of cars pass by especially during summer time. During the summer of 1994 (the date of the official opening of Terra-Vinea), more than 10,000 people visited this unique spot with a large proportion of tourists.

One of the oldest wineries in Chile offers guided tours of its grounds in Pirque. The hour-long tour begins with an institutional video, followed by a walk through the vineyards, the centenary park, the bodegas and the legendary Casillero del Diablo, or Devil's Cellar. It ends with a wine tasting that costs 500 pesos per glass, and a store with a variety of wines, souveniers and accessories. Use of cameras and video recorders is permited, and it is recommended to wear warm clothes since the underground bodegas are cold and low shoes. Reservations should be made a day in advance for visits from Monday to Friday, and a week in advance for Saturdays.
